     REPEAT FOR ALL NEEDING
     Attention: travel editors
     By John Justin Smith
     (c) 1980 Chicago Sun-Times (Field News Service)
You say you want to go first-class when you travel? You say that
nothing's too good for you? Then you should be interested in the
recently published Mobil Guide list of five-star lodgings and places
to dine in America.
Mobil rates things by stars, from one star (good, better than
average) to two stars (very good) to three stars (excellent) to four
stars (outstanding-worth a special trip) up to five stars (one of the
best in the country).
Mobil says it determines the number of stars to hand out by reports
from its staff of field inspectors, a rating committee, local
consultants and letters from the public.
It has been our experience that when Mobil gives one or two stars,
things may be a little murky and the place may be so-so. Three stars?
The hotel, motel or dining place is probably all right and a little
more. Four-star places are nearly always good.
Ah, but all the five-star places we know have turned out to be
very, very good.
So, just for you, you first-class traveler, here's how Mobil sees
the top-rated establishments for 1980:
There are eight hotels, 11 resorts and 13 restaurants on the
five-star list. Newcomers for 1980 are Tall Timber, a resort in
Durango, Colo.; the Four Seasons Clift Hotel in San Francisco and a
